Crime Stoppers doesn’t actually pay money.
UNTRUE! Crime Stoppers pays up to $1000 depending on the severity of the crime how many arrests were made, dollar value of item(s) stolen and/or recovered, and how the total impact of information received factored into the successful conclusion of the case.
Crime Stoppers is connected to the Police and/or Sheriff’s Office.
UNTRUE! Crime Stoppers are partnered with Law Enforcement and only provides the platform that allows a tipster to give anonymous information to the Police. Crime Stoppers do not investigate crime, or interview anyone. We simply pay reward money to a tipster who has provided valuable and useful information to solve a crime. Law Enforcement Detectives will provide information to help us decide how much money to pay a tipster, but no additional action is taken by any Board Member.
You have to give personal information when leaving a tip.
UNTRUE! Our P3 Tips application is computer based and assigns a number to a tipster. There is no personal information that is ever asked of a tipster - even if a tipster uses the Tips Phone line. the live person who answers will NEVER ask for information other than details of the crime that is being discussed.
A Tipster doesn’t actually stay anonymous.
UNTRUE! The Tipsters computer generated number stays within the P3 application all the way through the investigation of the case. If a Detective needs information clarified or wants to give the Tipster information about receiving their reward money, ANY and ALL interactions are completed through the P3 application! Even when a Tipster is owed reward money, they are instructed to bring their Tipster number with them to the Drive-thru window of Crime Stoppers Bank. When the number is presented to the Teller, the Tipster gets paid!
A Tipster can upload pictures or videos regarding the crime information being given to Law Enforcement.
TRUE! The P3 application allows photos and videos to be uploaded.
